What are VAT and TRN?
VAT (Value Added Tax) is a 5% value added tax (VAT) levied on the sale of most goods and services in the UAE and is collected and paid to the government by legal entities.
TRN (Tax Registration Number) is a unique number that is assigned after an application for VAT registration is submitted, verified and validated by the UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA).
When is a company required to register for VAT?
The UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA) stipulates that a business must register for VAT within 30 days after its taxable supplies and imports have exceeded the mandatory registration threshold of AED 375,000 for the last year of operation or are scheduled to exceed it in the next 30 days.
In addition, a business may voluntarily register for VAT if its supplies and imports or expenditures exceed the voluntary registration threshold of AED 187500.

What is CT (Corporate Tax) and when do I need to register for it?
Corporate tax - corporate tax, aka 9% profit tax, which was introduced in 2023 and is paid by legal entities once a year for the past reporting period. All companies without exception are required to register for it by the end of 2024, the first payment of it will be in September 2025 for the 2024 past year.
There is no tax on the first AED 375,000 of profits.
For SMEs whose annual income is less than or equal to AED 3 million, there is a 0% preferential tax regime. That is, you have to register, you have to file a declaration in 2025, but you do not have to pay.
